Socks, the Unsung Hero.  A good sock should fit your foot with no extra material anywhere, especially around your heel and in the toe box.  Toe seams should lay smooth, flat and cause no irritation.  Pick a sock with reinforced toe pockets.  A cushioned sole adds comfort, while a non-cushioned sock may allow your shoe or boot to fit more precisely.  Choose a sock material based on temperature, moisture management and fit. Cotton is somewhat adequate for casual comfort but is a weak fiber that gets soggy and loses shape when wet.  Wool insulates well in warm or cold, cushions well and absorbs moisture.  Merino wool in particular is an extremely soft, non-itchy, fine grade wool.  Nylon increases durability and Spandex assures a better fit.  For best results, wash socks in warm water, tumble dry low, no fabric softener or bleach…
